Terra Nova National Park is located on the east coast of the island of Newfoundland, approximately 250km west of the capital city of St. John’s. It protects an area where the long fingers of the sea reach into the heart of the island’s boreal forest. The park is approximately 400km2, 70% of which is boreal forest. Black spruce and balsam fir trees dominate the terrestrial landscape. The rugged coastline is deeply indented with islets, estuaries, cliffs and coves. The rocky headlands feature sea arches and caves.
