Architecture, TV Ad, Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism (HQ)

0 Architecture, TV Ad, Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism (HQ)In a world oddly bent on conformity. Theres something strangely encouraging about a place thats anything but.

One of the best examples of Newfoundland and Labradors creativity can be found in the unique architecture throughout the province. Its a demonstration of how distinctive and old this place is (St. Johns was first settled 500 years ago and is one of the oldest cities in North America). Exploring this warm and culturally rich place, youll marvel at the defiance of typical engineering logic, expressed by jellybean row houses lining steep hills, and homes and fishing wharfs clinging to rocky cliffs.

Blog: Serpentine River, Newfoundland & Labrador

0 Blog: Serpentine River, Newfoundland & LabradorBy Peter Bull, Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism:

I took a trip to the Serpentine River this summer with friends Ray and Cyndie Humber who are also owners of NewFoundoutfitting. I have always looked at maps of Newfoundland and Labrador and dreamed of visiting this part of the province. The Serpentine is located between Blow-Me-Down Mountain and the Louis Hills. Louis Hill is the highest point on the island portion of the Province at 815m. Ray and I had a fantastic day salmon fishing. Early in the morning, a cow moose walked up to us, watched us fish for a while and then nonchalantly walking off into the alders. We also saw two great blue herons, an uncommon sight on the Island. Ray cooked up a delicious shore lunch, the memory of which will last a lifetime. I managed to hook (and lose) a salmon and a grilse. Before spitting out my dry fly, both fish gave me shots of adrenalin with their spectacular jumping abilities. I will have to go back again to see if I can actually land a Serpentine salmon.

Blog: Day on the Water, Newfoundland & Labrador

0 Blog: Day on the Water, Newfoundland & LabradorBy Peter Bull, Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism:

There is no better way to reconnect with (or discover) your Newfoundland and Labrador heritage than by spending a day on the salt water. We did this with my sons Ronan and Cormac by taking them out fishing for cod during the recreational cod season. This was their first time on salt water and we lucked out with a perfectly calm day. The Lads were more than excited when they caught their first codfish and became official Newfoundlanders. We put the boat ashore on Green Island and found two gull chicks. While on the island we also watched dolphins just off the shore. This should be a day that they will remember forever, I know I will.
