The slaughter of seals is incredibly cruel (a post mortem survey has shown that 42% of these babies are skinned alive)
It is a threat to the survival of the species
It is a threat to the survival of cod
It is a slaughter done mainly for unessential, vanity, and luxury items, and therefore, is unnecessary
It is unethical to slaughter newborn seal pups (About 95% of the seals to be slaughtered are babies less than four weeks old)

Prices for seal …
Prices for seal pelts have plunged over the years, initially after the U.S. banned such imports in 1972 and especially after the EU ban last year. The best seal pelts sold for $100 in 2006. Today they fetch $15 if a buyer can be found at all. There isn’t much of a market for other seal products, such as meat……

Look around. Anti-vivisection protests include rats. Anti-abattoir protests include pigs. Anti-zoo protests include snakes.
What about anti-shark finning protests? Understand that our concern is for ALL voiceless that die so some can make a profit. Sealers can come up with another way to make a living, we did it in BC when the logging industry died.

About 6,000 people …
About 6,000 people take part in the annual east-coast seal hunts, the first of which for 2010 started this year. The total harvest brings in roughly $15 million a year. That averages $2,500 per person; no wonder nobody is known to make a living solely from the seal hunt…..
