PLEASE NOTE: Capital words are for EMPHASIS, ONLY. Thanks.
Thank you for your replies. They are coming in faster than I expected. This is my first time doing this.
This may, or may not make any difference, but I’m posting this from Newfoundland, Canada. Some may know where that is, others may not.
It’s true that, here, all we get is conventional, mainstream, Rap & Rip-hop. The type most are familiar with. That’s all that is played here. A couple of stations have started to play some of the old rock, just to give us some variety. I was not aware that there were other forms of Rap, and what I’ve heard, thus far, I have not been, at all, pleased with. And I’ve been listening from the beginning. From when it went mainstream, at any rate. Which, if I remember correctly, was around, the mid 80′s. If there was an underground scene before that then, I’m not aware. Apparently, this was the case with Disco, as well.
My reason for posting this is because I wonder WHY, some forms of music last, while others, do not. Even, while some of those forms are AS, good. For varying reasons. Now, to say that everyone has an opinion, and they all stink, as one of the respondents have already, stated; does not further the discussion, at all. All opinions are important, thus why questions are asked.
My PERSONAL, experience with Rap, thus far, has NOT, been good. I’ve not been impressed by it, in the least. Plus, I’ve not seen it evolve from the beginning. If it is doing so in some, underground scene, which I’m not aware of then, that is, utterly, different. If I’m not aware of it, I’m not aware of it. Right? What I AM, aware of, I’m not impressed with.
That being said; I’m aware of some of the things that, apparently, gave Disco a bad rap, but they apply EQUALLY, to Rap & Hip-hop. From what I know of it, anyway. What I’ve been exposed to.
In this version of "Saturday Night Fever," which I watched, last night, they went into some of the Negative Black-lash toward Disco. A Black-lash so, intense so, extreme that, quite, frankly, seemed odd. And I’m trying to understand WHY? As when one listens to the MUSIC, ITSELF, there seems to be NOTHING, to find fault with. As I understand it; Disco was meant to be LIGHT, EASY, and FUN, Music. And it was. So it seems. And for this, there was such a backlash? I expect that there was more to it than that. But I’m not sure that it was entirely, fair. Now, unlike Rap, Disco has had to, once again, go underground. As in NOT, being part of Mainstream, Pop, Culture. And I think that this is sad, and unfair. As it REMAINS, FUN, Music. And some of the BEST, DANCE MUSIC, there is.
Who agrees, and disagrees? May not get a chance to reply for a while.
All My Best: Ive.
Man, I am totally tired of this sh*t. If all you’ve listened to is the crap on the radio, then I’m sorry but you do not know a flying f*ck about hip hop.
I’m also from Canada.
