So how would the 68 soldiers from the Newfoundland Regiment survive the attack? If 700 odd soldiers from this troop were killed just making it to the German trenches, how would they survive a retreat? If they did retreat, who would have ordered it? And if they didn’t retreat, who captured the trench in order for them to survive?
Most of the men were killed in the initial attack, those who made it into no-mans-land and survived made their way back to their own trenches after if was clear the attack had failed, many were killed along the way by enemy snipers and machine guns. Headquarters gave the order to regroup for a second attack, however when they saw how few men remained, the order was canceled.

Ah,….. the mighty Humber River flows wounderfully as it takes my salmon fly right down the river. No salmon yet but 4 beautiful trout! Not complaining for sure!! lol No one ever around either. Maybe I shouldn’t give away this fishing spot, eh??? lol Ah, why not!
