Trying to decide where to go on vacation at the end of June, would like to go somewhere where I can be active?

Filed under: Newfoundland Culture — admin @ 8:55 pm

Factors, but not deciding factors:-not too big of a city because as I said I would like to do outdoor things and would not like it to be too expensive (ex. I imagine London or Paris would be very expensive)
-An interesting local history
-not to cold/rainy
-Outdoor activities I would like to do/be available to do: mountain biking, snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, etc.
-Different culture than western/canadian–>(which is not all that important to me)

Places I’m choosing between–must be at or near, thank you:
-Hawaii: Honolulu, Kona, Maui
-Ireland: Shannon, Dublin
-Tel Aviv
-London
-Paris
-Rome
-Munich
-Frankfurt
-Seattle
-Newfoundland: St. John’s
-Cuba
-Caracas
-Cuba: Havana
-Mexico: Cancun, Puerto Vallarta
-San Fransico
-Denver
-Washington, D.C.
-Chicago
-Bogota
-Lima
-Atlanta
-Anchorage
-Boston
-Phoenix
-Dallas/Fort Worth

Thank you, any comments/answers will be helpful, even if you don’t have an exact answer, coments will be helpful!

Well, if you want to go somewhere that is a bit different from Canada, I would strongly suggest that you come visit Hong Kong. It is a wonderful city as well as a fantastic central point from which to explore other parts of Asia. Also, there are english translations to almost all signage and a good portion of the population speaks at least some english, so it is very easy to get around. We have one of the most low cost, extensive, easy to use, and efficient public transport systems in the world. Also, we have many sights to see in the city – and outside of the city in the countryside – and that includes lots of ocean activities. We have world class hotels and restaurants as well as all the shopping you can imagine. Furthermore, we have temples and things like that that western tourists seem to like a lot.

Come visit http://www.RSTNL.com for links to some great websites that will help you get acquainted with Hong Kong and help you get started with your trip planning.

When my newfoundland is in season when is it too late to mate her?

Filed under: Newfoundland — admin @ 8:55 pm

My newfie has been bleeding for 4 or 5 days, when is it too late to mate her with a stud dog? My Retriever has been hanging around her for more than a week and she is not even remotely interested (but he hasnt tried to mount her – though she has him on a couple of occasions!!!) I would like to breed her with another Newfoundland but am unsure when this should be.

Please do a whole bunch of research before you even attempt to breed. No reputable Newfie breeder will use a untitled female. Have her spayed before an accident happens.

Why are names of Indian states so meaningless?

Filed under: Newfoundland Culture — admin @ 6:20 am

Why, in a country of such long traditions and heritages, do we have meaningless, arbitrary names for our states? This is especially so when culturally relevant names actually exist?
An issue closer to my heart is why in the world are UP leaders proposing to name Eastern UP ‘poorvanchal’ ? Is that a newly discovered country with no history and culture? Why not name it Avadh, and Western UP Braj/ Braj Bhoomi? Wouldn’t that be a lot more sensible?
Other Examples:

Uttaranchal- which should really just be Garhwal
Bihar- which should be Magadh
Arunachal Pradesh, which should whatever the people there traditionally call their state.

Is not a snub to the heritages of these regions to name them as if they are mere geographical entities, like ‘new’ countries, which name their states like ‘Western Australia’, ‘Newfoundland‘, ‘North Island’ etc?

We are standing at cultural crossroads today. Our politicians have divided the country in majority-minority and cases. Though your sentiments are worth praising but they will hit the vote bank politics. In such circumstances you need neutral names and that is why they geographically based and will not bring people at loggerheads.

How much would it cost to get a round trip ticket to Newfoundland?

Filed under: Newfoundland — admin @ 4:18 pm

I need to know this because I’m trying to set a goal to go see my girlfriend! Please help me out if you can! I wanna stay for at least a week in Saint Johns, Newfoundland!
I’m in Alabama. I certainly am not going to be renting a car to go there! I’m taking a plane! If I just had some sort of basis for prices I could start saving up for that goal!

where are you flying from?
this is a global site so you could be anywhere in the world
